Happy New Year! (and some resolutions for 2011)

Well, one of my resolutions this year is to get my act together and be a more consistent blogger AND the second is to make more time for "play" in my studio (not to mention my long list of things I need to finish). I need to get past my type A analness about making mistakes and just "do" - isn't that how most creative happy accidents occur?

My real job is Microbiologist, my fun job is my decorative painting.....you can see now why I have a hard time just letting loose and just doing whatever!

2011 is a new year - with new ideas and less time for watching TV. It's about me prioritzing my time better, being more productive (but also enjoying the time so it doesn't feel like another job being in my studio) and exercising more.

Here's to resolutions!

Have a great 2011 everyone!

Where does the time go?

Close up of the "after" (the paper is still on the cabinets below)

AFTER - no more pink formica! (Still have to do the backsplash)

BEFORE - ugly 90's pink formica with wood trim! Yuck...

I am such a bad blogger! I swear in my mind that it has not been since Jan. that I posted anything - but I guess it has! So I have been busy making signs - which has been fun. I have also been doing some furniture makeovers. My latest endeavor has been Aurastone! For anyone who has not seen this product go to http://www.aurastone.com/ this stuff rocks!

I just finished my counter tops and my neighbors counter tops with this. You can go over any surface and it looks AMAZING! Here are my before and after pics for my kitchen. (Not sure how my Before pictures always end up last - sorry).

Signs, Signs and More Signs

"Bathroom"

Close up of distressing detail

"My Family"

Here are the pictures of the signs I have been working on that I mentioned in my last posting. They are old cabinet doors and drawer fronts that I bought for $1 each. I scuffed them with some sand paper, cleaned them and then painted 2 coats of paint on them. I didn't use primer because I was going to be distressing them so I didn't care if some of the paint came off. I was going for that look. I also used Benjamin Moore Aura paint which is very thick and is almost self-priming by itself. Used a little Modge Podge and glued down some heavy duty scrapbook paper, and hand painted some lettering.....Wah-lah! 24 of them have been pre-sold. The 2 themes are Beach Cottage & Vintage French.

Hope you enjoy them!

Have a great New Year......

I took some pictures and added them to http://www.zazzle.com/momeny23 as postcards that can be purchased. Check it out. Zazzle rocks!!

I have been out in my studio working feverishly on some very cool signs. I will post pics when I get them done.

Until then,
Keep on paintin!
